FGV promotes workshop on data science

FGV’s School of Applied Mathematics (EMAp) will be promoting, on April 1-5, the “Workshop on Data Science,” from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., to gather academics and industry researchers to discuss and present the great advances in theory and in the application of data science.

“Data Science has become a key component of most analytical and decision-making processes. Therefore, we will bring together great experts to present and share the latest advances in the theory and applications of data science. The event will be attended by researchers and professionals from various academic disciplines relating to data science, including statistics, machine learning, big data and computer science, as well as scholars specializing in smart cities, finance, biology and criminology, who will be presenting their experiences and the importance of data science for the development of these activities,” explained Professor Jorge Poco, one of the coordinators of the meeting.

The meeting will have technical content, intended for students, professors, and researchers of the topic. The program includes 10 plenary lectures and two mini-courses. The mini-courses will use methodology in which students will learn, in practice, Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing to solve real-world problems involving massive data. Participants will also be able to attend lectures by professors from countries such as the United States, France, United Kingdom, Hong Kong, and Brazil.

The meeting will be held at the FGV Headquarters (Praia de Botafogo, 190, 12º andar, Botafogo, Rio de Janeiro, RJ), and registrations can be made on the website.
