FGV receives papers for international conference on human rights in digital design

The call for abstracts for the Embedding Human Rights in Digital Design Conference is now under way. The selected papers may be presented at the conference, which is being organized by the FGV Rio de Janeiro Law School’s Center for Technology and Society and its Diversity and Inclusion Program, in partnership with the Bonavero Institute of Human Rights at the University of Oxford. The event will take place on April 15, 2024 and abstracts will be accepted for presentation until December 22, 2023.

We welcome the submission of papers with critical and innovative perspectives on the intersection between human rights and new technologies, which address potential human rights risks and violations in the digital age, as well as norms and principles that ensure the proper integration of fundamental rights into governance and regulation processes for new technologies.

In order to ensure an interdisciplinary debate, we encourage a broad interpretation of the theme and we will accept papers in a variety of fields. We welcome the submission of abstracts not only from people with a background in law, but also in computer science, information technology, public policy, sociology and political science, among other areas.

The conference is organized by Professor Richard Scott, a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Oxford and visiting professor at the FGV Center for Technology and Society, together with Professor Yasmin Curzi and Professor Luca Belli, both of the FGV Rio de Janeiro Law School. The keynote speaker will be Professor Lilian Edwards.

The abstracts should be emailed to humanrights_digitaldesign@proton.me.
