FGV seminar in Brasília discusses judicialization of politics
The investigation by the Judiciary on the subjects concerning the activities commonly associated with the Executive and Legislative powers and the consequences generated by this action were the issues addressed by the seminar Judicialization of Politics - an initiative of FGV Corporativo (FGV Corporate), as part of the graduate program in Government Advising, offered for senior executives of Petrobras.
The meeting took place last Friday, October 11, and was attended by the minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) Teori Zavascki. This issue has been much discussed and the Judiciary is at the forefront of the interpretation of the law, in order to meet the new demands of society, says Professor Eugenio Franco Montoro, who coordinated the course. The discussion of the judicialization of politics in an executive training course offered to Petrobras is justified by the need that the companies have in understanding the role of the Judiciary in the Brazilian constitutional model - especially now, in which the participation of the Judiciary and the STF have a great visibility, explains professor Montoro.
Still according to the professor, the debate helps the executives who attend the course acquire specific knowledge about the structure of the State and the operation of the Powers and government agencies, he observes.
Teori Zavascki is the Minister of the STF and took over the STF's chair in 2012, by suggestion of President Dilma Roussef. He is a licensed professor of the University of Rio Grande do Sul and author of numerous legal works.
Judicialization of Politics is the second seminar offered by the program (which has already addressed the Regulatory Framework of the Oil and Gas Sector) which took place at FGV's main office in Brasília.
