FGV signs agreement to manage the Holy Franciscan Museum’s expansion and modernization

Fundação Getulio Vargas has just entered into a partnership with the Secular Franciscan Fraternity of St. Francis of Penance to support the development of the Path of Saint Francis Project, which aims to expand and modernize the Holy Franciscan Museum, located at Largo da Carioca, in downtown Rio de Janeiro. FGV will be responsible for supporting all project management.

Budgeted at over BRL 200 million, the project provides for the creation of a Cultural Center, Library, Auditorium, and Restoration Center, among other complementary structures such as restaurants and lodging area at Largo da Carioca. Professor Irineu Frare, from FGV Projetos, will coordinate this initiative.

In addition to the expansion and modernization of the Holy Franciscan Museum, the construction will also renovate the workshops, labs and studios, as well as enable public access for the restoration of its sacred pieces and to monitor the work of its conservation-restoration technical experts.

The agreement was signed on October 24 by the President of FGV, professor Carlos Ivan Simonsen Leal, and by the Minister of the Franciscan Fraternity, Valéria da Costa Pinheiro, in a ceremony that was also attended by Cesar Cunha Campos (Dean of FGV Projetos), Bianor Cavalcanti (Director of FGV’s International Affairs Division (DINT)), Carlos Alberto Pinheiro (Administrator of the Church and of the Holy Museum), professors Irapoan Cavalcanti, Irineu Frare and Willians Cesar Rocha Gaspar, and architect Glauco Campello.
