FGV study traces profile and opinion of World Cup fans in Brazil

FGV Projetos has conducted, in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism and Fundação Instituto de Pesquisas Econômicas (Fipe), a survey that outlines the profiles of World Cup fans and what they think about Brazil.The study indicated that the country welcomed 203 nationalities of tourists during the event. The majority (61%) has never been to the country before and praised the infrastructure and tourism services. The best evaluated items were hospitality and cuisine, with 98% and 93% of approval, respectively.The Brazilian public safety was evaluated positively by 92% of them. Taxis, tourist information and public transport were approved by nine out of 10 international visitors and airports by eight out of ten.The study also shows that the World Cup benefited more than the 12 host cities - foreign tourists, who remained on average 13 days in the country, visited 378 Brazilian municipalities, including the host cities. BraziliansA total of 3,056,397 Brazilians circulated throughout the country during the World Cup. São Paulo was the main state of destination with 858,825 people. Second came Rio de Janeiro (260,527), followed by Bahia (220,021), Minas Gerais (204,425) and Paraná (165,694).According to the survey, Brazilians are more critical than foreigners. The service and responsiveness were considered positive by 90.5% of domestic tourists, and safety by 83.8%. Stadiums were approved by 92% of Brazilians and 98.2% of foreigners. Foreign mediaBesides the tourists, the survey heard the opinion of the international press. Tourist attractions were the most highly rated aspect, with 98.4% of approval, followed by nightlife and tourist information, with 96.2% and 90%. Virtually all media professionals (96.5%) would recommend a trip to Brazil for friends and family.The survey heard 6,627 foreigners and 6,038 Brazilians since the beginning of the World Cup.
