FGV/IBRE presents new product to monitor GDP

Last Friday, August 1, the Office of Institutional Clients (SCI) and the sector of Applied Economics of the Brazilian Institute of Economics (FGV/IBRE) welcomed financial institutions to introduce a new product under development: the GDP Monitor. The report was officially launched in May and plans to disclose previews on the official result of the Gross Domestic Product, with monthly indicators by economic activity. It was an event that allowed us to assess how the market would accept such product and how much we need to adjust the format to actually deliver it to the market, explained the coordinator of SCI's Market Intelligence, Cristiane Bernardes.Developed by the economists Cláudio Considera and Maria Alice de Gusmão Veloso, the project has been designed more than one year ago, and at the beginning, the focus was only at the service sector. At first, in the first quarter of 2013, the focus was limited and we've realized over time that the study had not only an internal value. That is, it could be interesting for the market. We began; therefore, developing it for other sectors such as agriculture and industry, said Cristiane. The presentation event of the product to the market was useful not only to understand its potential, but also to measure clients' confidence in IBRE. Our surprise was to realize that they've instantly shown interest for the information. We were anxious to present the methodology and share the entire development process, but the clients wanted to know other details like timing and form of delivery, and how would the access to information happen. We've realized then, that there is already a great confidence in the work of our institute, stated the coordinator. For the second half, the GDP Monitor will go through final adjustments and a business plan. We will make some minor adjustments to give the study a product format and draw a plan to introduce it to market. At first, we thought of a package including a report that would be sent at every GDP preview, said Cristiane. Within a year, there will be a total of 16 editions of the GDP Monitor, including monthly and quarterly editions.
