Hiring pace is expected to slow down in the coming months, according to IBRE

After the fourth consecutive decline, the index reached the lowest level since May 2009.

The Leading Indicator of Employment (IAEmp) of the Brazilian Institute of Economics (FGV/IBRE) retreated 4.5% in June 2014 in comparison to the previous month, to 75.7 points, considering data free of seasonal influences. After the fourth consecutive decline, the index reached the lowest level since May 2009 (73.0 points). The result indicates an intensification of the deceleration trend in the hiring pace for the coming months.According to the institute, the components that contributed most negatively to the change in the IAEmp in the month were the indicators that measure the consumer perspectives on finding future employment in the region, the Consumer Survey, with a -13.1% change, in addition to the degree of optimism of entrepreneurs regarding business trends for the next six months of the Industry Survey, with a -6.5% change.IAEmp is composed of a combination of series extracted from the Industry, Services and Consumer Surveys, and predicts the direction of the labor market in the country.Please click here and check out more IBRE indicators (in Portuguese).
