IGP-M records the most negative growth in Brazil since June 2003

The General Price Index - Market (IGP-M) calculated by the Brazilian Institute of Economy (FGV/IBRE) changed -0.74% in June, the most negative rate recorded since June 2003. In May, the index changed -0.13%, and in June 2013, 0.75%. The accumulated change in 2014, until June, was 2.45%. In 12 months, the IGP-M has changed 6.24%.

The General Price Index - Market (IGP-M) calculated by the Brazilian Institute of Economy (FGV/IBRE) changed -0.74% in June, the most negative rate recorded since June 2003. In May, the index changed -0.13%, and in June 2013, 0.75%. The accumulated change in 2014, until June, was 2.45%. In 12 months, the IGP-M has changed 6.24%.All indexes which comprise the IGP presented a deceleration in their change rates. The Broad Producer Price Index (IPA), for example, changed -1.44%. In the previous month, the rate was -0.65%. The largest contribution to the result came from the subgroup fresh food, whose change rate increased from -3.08% to -12.73%. In the initial stage of production, the index of the raw-material group changed -2.63% in June. In May, the index recorded a -1.37% change. The main responsible items for the deceleration were grain corn, coffee beans and fresh milk.The Consumer Price Index (IPC) registered a 0.34% change in June, against 0.68% in May. Again, the largest contribution to the decrease originated from the Food group, thanks to the behavior of the greens and vegetables item, whose rate increased from 1.26% to -8.76%. The Housing, Health and Personal Care, Transport and Communication groups also recorded a change rate decrease. In these groups it is worth mentioning the residential electricity tariff, the prices of medicines in general, ethanol and home phone tariffs.The National Construction Cost Index (INCC) recorded in June a 1.25% change, - also below the result in May, which was 1.37%. The index for Materials, Equipment and Services recorded a 0.37% change. In the previous month, the rate was 0.47%. The index that represents the labor cost recorded a 2.05% change in June. In the previous month, this index recorded a 2.20% rate.The IGP-M is calculated based on prices collected between the 21st of the previous month and the 20th of the reference month and it is used to correct, along with other parameters, the electric power supply and rental agreements.Please click and read the release on IBRE's website (in Portuguese).
