Impact of superior court decisions on the agendas of interest to CSOs is the subject of debate

The last “CSO on the Agenda” in 2018 for the project “Economic Sustainability of Civil Society Organizations” was held on December 7. The participants discussed the preliminary findings of the research “Organizações da Sociedade Civil no Supremo Tribunal Federal e no Superior Tribunal de Justiça” [Civil Society Organizations in the Federal Supreme Court and the Superior Court of Justice], by researcher Marcia Araújo Sabino de Freitas.

The research aims to map the decisions and actions of relevance in the Federal Supreme Court (STF) and the Superior Court of Justice (STJ) on the themes of the project. In this early version, after processing the databases, the research identified 71 relevant law suits and one precedent for an in-depth analysis. The search will continue in 2019, when its findings will be fully disclosed.

The meeting was attended by researchers from FGV’s Sao Paulo Law School (Direito SP), the Coordination for Applied Legal Research (CPJA), the Supreme in Numbers, the Nucleus for Justice and Constitutional Affairs of the Center for Education and Research in Innovation, as well as civil society organizations and guest experts.
