International conference discusses public administration and governance in Latin America
On September 9 and 10, Fundação Getulio Vargas’ international director, Professor Bianor Cavalcanti, participated in the 2019 Annual Conference of the Latin American Group for Public Administration (LAGPA). The event was held in the city of Quito, Ecuador, in partnership with the University of Valle (Colombia), the Institute for Advanced National Studies (IAEN, Ecuador) and the International University of Ecuador (UIDE), in close collaboration with Fundação Getulio Vargas, through LAGPA’s Executive Secretariat, the regional representative of the International Institute of Administrative Sciences (IIAS).
Professor Bianor Cavalcanti, himself a past president of LAGPA/IIAS, represented FGV by presiding over the event’s main discussion, which featured the president of IAEN, Fernando Lopez Parra; the president of UIDE, Gustavo Vega; a representative of the University of Valle, Professor Ruben Dario Echeverri; and Eduardo Pazuello, a divisional general and the head of Brazil’s refugee aid mission on the frontier between Roraima and Venezuela.
Over the course of the two-day conference, more than 30 specialists in public administration and governance from 13 countries met to discuss three important, topical subjects: public administration initiatives in Latin America geared toward the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals; migration in Latin America – public policy initiatives and comparative experiences; and innovations in public management.
During the event, at a general assembly, elections were held to choose a new president and board for the 2019-2022 period. The newly elected president is Professor Ruben Dario Echeverri, a former vice president of the International Associations of Schools and Institutes of Administration (IASIA) for the Latin America and Caribbean region.
