International study assesses economic return of sustainability projects

The Center for Sustainability Studies (GVces) of the São Paulo School of Business Administration (EAESP) has just launched the study titled ?The Economic Return of Sustainability Projects: Redefining the value of multinational investments in Brazil,? in partnership with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) ? German international cooperation agency. The publication is the result of one year of the initiative to analyze sustainability projects both economically and financially, held within the framework of the Emerging Market Multinationals Network for Sustainability (EMM) Program, gathering 250 leaders of multinational companies based or operating in emerging economies, in order to improve sustainability standards in the market.Coined ?Sustainability ROI? in allusion to the financial term ROI ? Return on Investment, the initiative measured the economic and financial return of sustainability projects in companies, in order to help organizations identify and simulate the return of certain aspects of sustainability, while promoting an environment to encourage these companies to share experiences and lessons learned. In addition, the initiative sought to spur dialogue on finance and sustainability, contributing to the integration and engagement of different areas among participating companies, as well as providing elements so that decision makers can measure the return of actual or potential sustainability projects and actions. The project also sought to contribute to the initiatives of the EMM (Enterprise Mobility Management) network, transforming sustainability challenges into successful business solutions. To meet these goals, 11 case studies were developed in seven participating companies in Brazil, including AES Brasil, Grupo Boticário, Siemens, Adidas, CPFL Energia, and Votorantim. The complete study is available on the website (in Portuguese). To access other studies, in English, please click here.
