Lecture discusses construction of Brazil’s image abroad based on Brazilian team excursions

The Laboratory for Sports Studies (LESP) of FGV’s School of Social Sciences (CPDOC) will host the debate titled “International circulation of Brazilian sports teams abroad: football team tours between 1945 and 1974” on April 12, starting at 2 p.m. The event will be attended by French researcher Clément Astruc, professor and PhD candidate from Sorbonne and the Institute of Advanced Studies of Latin America (IHEAL), who will present a study on Brazilian football teams that participated in competitions and friendly matches overseas between the 1940s and 1970s.

The study breaks down the political, diplomatic, and sports aspects of Brazilian team excursions – particularly the Santos and Botafogo teams – through Europe and other continents. Based on official and private documents – and also supported by print sources –, the researcher will share his studies on the circulation and reception of Brazilian teams during seasons abroad, analyzing the construction of the country’s image on such occasions.

The event will be held at Auditorium 1014 of FGV’s main office (Praia de Botafogo, 190. Botafogo, Rio de Janeiro/RJ). Go to the website for more information.
