Meeting promotes discussion of nuclear policy in Brazil
Last week, Fundação Getulio Vargas’ School of International Relations (FGV RI) held a workshop to teach nuclear policy in Brazil. The event brought together professors and researchers from Brazil and abroad to discuss best practices in teaching, highlighting the importance of this subject in today’s global context.
The workshop addressed crucial issues such as the present and future of nuclear deterrence, the crisis currently facing nuclear governance norms and Brazil’s nuclear diplomacy.
Matias Spektor, vice dean of FGV RI, highlighted the relevance of this topic. “At a time when Brazil’s nuclear industry is growing and strengthening, it is essential to train qualified professionals to face the challenges and take advantage of the opportunities in this strategic sector,” he said.
FGV’s School of International Relations offers a program of studies on “Global Nuclear Policy,” as part of an ongoing effort to professionalize this area in Brazil. In addition, FGV RI students have the opportunity to do work immersions at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
The workshop was part of FGV RI’s initiative to strengthen academic networks dedicated to nuclear policy and prepare the next generation of specialists to tackle the challenges of the future.
