Mega-events and housing rights in Brazil are the topics of EAESP's meeting

São Paulo School of Business Administration (FGV/EAESP) is holding today one more meeting in the series Jornadas Impertinentes (Impertinent Days) - organized three years ago by the School's Social and Legal Management Principles Department (FSJ) with the purpose of discussing issues that are not included in the teaching daily routine in the area, but which are part of the reality of students and organizations. The urban planner and professor at USP's Architecture and Urbanism College, Raquel Rolnik, was invited to the debate this month and she talked about the impacts of mega-events for cities and their residents: will the World Cup and the Olympics be remembered for its legacy or for the violation of rights which are performed in order to carry out these events? Raquel Rolnik is one of the most critical and significant voices of urban space occupation which has been heard, explained EAESP's Professor and member of the FSJ, Rosa Maria Vieira. Rolnik is also a special rapporteur of the UN's Human Rights Council on the Right to Proper Housing and she has also been Planning director of the city of São Paulo. According to Rosa, Jornadas Impertinentes always address controversial and intense issues. The issues we brought to FGV range from an analysis of the press to transgender in the management and business world. Now the theme is major events, with a focus on the World Cup and what it represents, said Rosa Maria. The next debate takes place on May 15 and it will feature the professor of the School of Social Sciences (FGV/CPDOC), Bernardo Buarque de Holanda, expert in Social History of sports and organized soccer supporters. The talks compute as a certification for electives courses during undergraduate studies and no registration is needed to participate. Please click here and learn more about the first semester's Jornadas Impertinentes (in Portuguese).
