New podcast discusses different approaches to ethics and compliance

The corporate environment is undergoing profound transformations. Improvements to governance, the development of compliance policies and concern for environmental and social issues are becoming increasingly important in organizations. In order to discuss these issues from different perspectives, FGVethics recently launched the Ethics4All podcast, which will host monthly debates with renowned experts.

Four episodes are already available. The first of them discussed what compliance is and its role within companies. The episode featured professors Ligia Maura Costa, Paulo Marzionna and Luciana Betiol, along with students Mariana Shiruo and Isabela Barbosa, all from FGV EAESP. The students discussed the subject based on their experience during an immersion week at the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.

The second episode discussed Brazil’s atypical municipal elections in 2020 and their impacts on the electoral process and the integrity of elections, as well as ways to ensure transparent control of public election campaign fund spending. These issues were addressed by Professor Marco Antônio Teixeira, the coordinator of the undergraduate course in public administration at FGV EAESP and a member of FGVethics, together with Fabiano Angélico, a researcher on transparency and anti-corruption measures and a consultant to UNDP and the World Bank. The moderator was Professor Paulo Marzionna of FGV EAESP, who is the executive coordinator of FGVethics.

The third episode examined compliance’s impact on health care, based on two questions: How is the health care industry facing the risks of noncompliant situations? What are the main challenges and opportunities arising from COVID-19? Professor Ana Maria Malik of FGV EAESP, who is the coordinator of the FGV Center for Health Planning and Management Studies (FGVSaúde), together with Roberta Paoloni, the director of compliance at 3M in the United States and Canada, debated this topic. The moderator was Luciana Stocco Betiol, a professor at FGV EAESP and the executive coordinator of FGVethics.

The fourth episode, recently released, looked at the agribusiness sector, which accounts for a considerable proportion of Brazil’s GDP and almost half its exports. The sector’s size poses great opportunities and also great responsibilities, especially when it comes to compliance. Daniel Franco Goulart, a professor at FGV EAESP and the director of credit risk at AGI Brasil, together with Claudio Torquato da Silva, the head of the Special Advisory Office on Internal Control at the Agriculture Ministry, discussed this topic. The moderator was Ligia Maura Costa, a professor at FGV EAESP and FGVethics’ general coordinator.
