Online meeting focuses on new regulations governing carbon credits in Brazil
The Center for Sustainability Studies (FGVces) at Fundação Getulio Vargas’ Sao Paulo School of Business Administration (FGV EAESP) is holding a webinar on new regulations governing carbon credits in Brazil. This public event will be livestreamed on FGV’s YouTube channel on November 21, at 7 p.m.
The speakers will be Paulo Roberto Gonçalves Ferreira, superintendent of accounting standards and auditing at the Brazilian Securities and Exchange Commission (CVM); and Guilherme Lefévre, coordinator of FGV EAESP’s Brazilian Greenhouse Gas Protocol Program. The moderator will be Edilene Santana Santos, coordinator of FGV EAESP’s Second Undergraduate Program on Accounting, Finance and Analytics.
New regulations on carbon credits, currently being analyzed by Congress and the Accounting Pronouncements Committee, look set to have a major impact on Brazilian companies’ environmental strategies and their disclosure. For Brazilian companies, this is an opportunity to create value through sustainable projects and stand out in national and international markets. For Brazil, it provides a new way to excel as nations across the world compete for environmental sustainability, in line with the commitments of the Paris Agreement. However, there are challenges to be faced. For example, how can the value created by decarbonization projects and the liabilities and costs associated with these projects be made fully transparent? How can we make sustainable initiatives visible while avoiding greenwashing?
