Online seminar explores monetary policy in Brazil and other countries

To debate differences in monetary policy focus and strategy between Brazil and other countries, Fundação Getulio Vargas’ Brazilian Institute of Economics (FGV IBRE), in partnership with the newspaper Valor Econômico, is holding the “8th Annual Monetary Policy Seminar.” The event will take place on May 25, at 10 am, on FGV’s YouTube channel.

The behavior of inflation has become a major source of concern in recent months, in Brazil and other countries. The Brazilian Central Bank acted quickly, taking real interest rates into contractionary territory in a short period. Although this measure will not guarantee success in controlling inflation, many economists consider it to be an indispensable step in this direction. In the developed world, on the other hand, the monetary authorities have been slower to react to rising inflation.

The speakers will be Affonso Celso Pastore, founding partner and consultant at A.C. Pastore & Associados; Eduardo Loyo, a board member of Banco BTG-Pactual; and José Júlio Senna, head of FGV IBRE’s Center for Monetary Studies.

The moderator will be Valor Econômico special reporter Alex Ribeiro. The event will be livestreamed on FGV’s YouTube channel.
