In Paris, DIREITO RIO talks about litigation and regulations in the Mercosur
At the invitation of professor and director of École Doctorale de Droit International et Européen da Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, Denys Simon, the International Law professor of DIREITO RIO, Paula Wojcikiewicz Almeida gave a lecture in Paris on regulation and litigation in Mercosur. The latest developments, the chronic difficulties and the dispute settlement system of the block were the topics presented by the professor. According to her, recent problems were addressed, such as the entry of Venezuela and Paraguay's suspension, the problem of incorporating the standards and their application by the judges, the proposed creation of a supreme court and the role of Brazil as the country with the largest weight in the common market. The professor also highlighted the critical debate of the current Mercosur, its legal and institutional system and political dominance over the right in the organization.These are important and current topics, especially for specialists in the European Union, who want to get to know our system in a comparative perspective, he explains. The lecture was part of the series of conferences on the role of the judge in the international system and took place on January 22, which lasted an hour and was followed by another hour of debates. The audience was made up of professors, doctorate and master students from Sorbonne itself.
