Preliminary figures indicate rise in Brazilian industry confidence in January
The Industry Survey’s preliminary figures for January 2018 point towards an increase of 0.5 point in the Industry Confidence Index (ICI) compared to the final figures from December. With seven successive increases, the index would reach 99.9 points – the highest level since September 2013 (101.7 points).
The increase in confidence in early 2018 stemmed from improved outlooks regarding the current scenario. Meanwhile, the Current Situation Index (ISA) increased 2.3 points, totaling 100.8 points, and the Expectations Index (IE) dropped 1.3 point, down to 99.0 points.
Preliminary results for January indicate an increase of 0.1 percentage point in the Industry Installed Capacity Usage Level (NUCI), reaching 74.8% – the highest level since December 2015 (75.0%).
For the January 2018 preliminary figures, 791 companies were surveyed between January 2 and 18. The month’s final results will be published next Monday, January 29.
