Preliminary Industrial Survey signals improvement in January

Preliminary Industrial Survey results for January 2020 indicate a 1.1-point rise in the Industry Confidence Index (ICI) in relation to the final number for December 2019, to 100.5 points – the same figure seen in April 2018.

The improvement in confidence this month is due to better expectations among business people in relation to the next three and six months. The Expectations Index increased 2.4 points, to 101.6 points, which is the highest number seen since June 2018 (when the result was 102.3 points). On the other hand, the Current Situation Index fell 0.3 of a point, to 99.3 points.

The preliminary result for January indicates a 0.4-percentage-point rise in the Industrial Installed Capacity Utilization Level (NUCI), to 75.5% – the same figure recorded in September 2019.
