Professional Master's Degree at FGV's School of Social Sciences celebrates 10 years

FGV's School of Social Sciences (CPDOC) celebrates today the 10-year anniversary of the Professional Master's in Cultural Goods and Social Projects with a day's work that will discuss the trends and challenges of professional master's programs in Brazil, its place in graduate studies and issues relatied to courses in History and related areas. The date also indicates when the School began its activities in education, possibly thanks to the accumulation of practical experience and research. We had the perception that there was a growing need for training professionals working with cultural and social responsibility issues, and that CPDOC could meet the demand of an expanding market with its expertise, says professor Luciana Heymann, who coordinates the course. The program is the first professional master's degree in History in the country and it is within CPDOC's graduate Program in History, Politics and Cultural Goods (PPHPBC). Along these 10 years, we can say that the assessment is very positive: our master's degree was granted the maximum evaluation by Capes (grade 5), and 143 professors graduated with us. Many claim to have improved their professional performances and others have discovered a talent for research, joining doctorate studies, evaluates Luciana. Also according to the professor, the program has had a growing demand for themes related to shanty towns, environment and tourism - among others - and continues to be highly sought after by students interested in more traditional themes of the school, such as heritage, archives and cultural policies. Our goal is to expand, in tune with the market, but keeping the tradition of CPDOC and without ever losing quality, he reveals. About the Event The event, held in Portuguese, will take place this afternoon and is divided into two round tables. The first one brings the theme The place of the Professional Master's Degree in Graduate Studies in Brazil: assessment and prospects and will be attended by the president of the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES), Jorge Guimarães; the president of the Professional Master's Forum (FOPROF), Claudia Morgado; FGV's Provost of Teaching, Research and Graduate Studies, Antonio Freitas; and the Coordinator of the History Department at CAPES, Carlos Fico.
