The lack of skilled workers is a major problem in Rio de Janeiro, concerning the peak tourist season caused by major events, said the coordinator of the tourism department of Fundação Getulio Vargas in Rio, Professor Luiz Gustavo Medeiros Barbosa, in the magazine Veja. The lack of qualification is still strong in the tourism sector. And certainly there's no time to recover much for the 2014 and 2016 sports events, warns Medeiros Barbosa. He also added that the city will lose many opportunities because of this deficiency. Rio loses money by not having skilled workers, he emphasized. However, despite the challenges in services and advertising the city abroad, the coordinator believes that the industry in Rio will not suffer from idleness problems after the 2016 Olympics. Demands should remain strong after the events. Advertising cannot be seen as responsibility of the State only. Throughout the world entrepreneurs come together to make investments in promotion. Rio Entrepreneurs are still very shy in that sense, he warns.
