Racial violence study is presented at Harvard by FGV researchers
Researchers from the Maps of Injustice research project, under way at the Center for Racial Justice and Law Studies at Fundação Getulio Vargas’ Sao Paulo Law School, took part in the Third Continental Meeting of Afro-Latin American Studies at Harvard University’s Afro-Latin American Research Institute (Alari).
The center participated in Discussion Panel 207, titled “Racial Violence in the Americas: Analyzing the Relationship Between Violence, Race and State Practices,” coordinated by Julia Drummond, a researcher and student who is doing a doctorate in law and development at the FGV Sao Paulo Law School, and who also leads the Maps of Injustice research project, funded by Googlre.org. The panel covered topics such as police killings and racism, incarceration of black teenagers, racial issues in agrarian conflicts, racism in access to reproductive services in Brazil, and race and the environment.
The panel’s participants were Natália Santana dos Santos, Amanda Gonçalves Prado Quaresma, Juliana Vinuto, Igor Thiago Silva de Sousa, Jaciane Milanezi and Felipe Estrela. The moderator was Synthia Maia.
