Research aimed at improving the labor justice system receives award from Superior Labor Court
Last week, Olivia Pasqualeto, a professor of labor and social security law and researcher at the FGV Sao Paulo Law School’s Center for Education and Research in Innovation (CEPI), received a special medal handed out to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Brazilian labor justice system.
These commemorate medals were presented by the Superior Labor Court to thank professors, researchers, judges and other experts for their contributions to the country’s labor justice system.
Pasqualeto coordinated a research project called An Analysis of Constitutional Challenges Related to Outsourcing and Self-Employment Filed with the Federal Supreme Court, which explored the profile of constitutional challenges related to outsourcing and self-employment handled by the Federal Supreme Court between January and August 2023. It was found that in 64% of these cases, the court permitted outsourcing or self-employment.
The researchers analyzed 841 rulings handed down by individual judges between January 1 and August 20, 2023. In all, 43% of the decisions in this area permitted outsourcing of core business activities, while 21% of them permitted self-employment. The study was published on November 23, 2023.
Pasqualeto said that her award from the Superior Labor Court reflected work done by the Sao Paulo Law School. “This honor means that the Superior Labor Court considered our study to be significant, contributing valuable and practical insights to aid the judiciary’s endeavors in this field,” she said.
