São Paulo Law School launches a series of studies in the field of law and civil society

The Centre for Applied Legal Research (CPJA) at FGV's São Paulo Law School (DIREITO GV) launched the series CPJA/DIREITO GV Analysis, with the objective of addressing the reforms needed to strengthen Brazilian civil society. Regulatory Framework of Civil Society Organizations: Current Scenario and Progress Strategies is the theme of the first document, which brings together two studies by CPJA in line with the research Rule of Law and Civil Society, with the support from the Open Society Foundations. The existence of an organized, active and autonomous civil society in relation to the state is a prerequisite for the country's sustainable development and consolidation of democracy and Rule of Law, states São Paulo Law School's director, Oscar Vilhena Vieira, and CPJA's coordinator, José Reinaldo de Lima Lopes, in the document's foreword text. About the series, the coordinator of CPJA's Rule of Law and Civil Society, Eduardo Pannunzio, emphasizes the importance of studies in the area. In Brazil there are few research centers that carry out systematic work in the fields of law and civil society with a focus on improving the legal environment. This is the gap that CPJA seeks to fulfill, he says. The Center for Applied Legal Research is São Paulo Law School's think tank, with a mission to contribute to the debate on the effectiveness of Brazilian Rule of Law, carrying out diagnostics and recommending solutions.
