Schools of Fundação Getulio Vargas are among the best institutions of higher education in the country
Retrospect 2012. Six FGV schools were once again among the top 27 higher education institutions in the country, according to the General Index of Courses of the Ministry of Education (IGC/MEC), released in December 2012. EPGE (Rio de Janeiro School of Economics), the Undergraduate School of Social Sciences (CPDOC), EBAPE (Rio de Janeiro School of Administration), EAESP (São Paulo School of Administration), EESP (São Paulo School of Economics) and DIREITO GV (São Paulo Schoolof Law) scored 5 - maximum evaluation score that takes into account the performance of undergraduate students in Enade, the institution concept in Capes in the master's and doctoral programs, among other items, such as infrastructure and quality of the faculty.
EBEF - as it is known EPGE's undergraduate course - had the best performance in Brazil for the third consecutive time. The director of the School, Rubens Penha Cysne, believes that much of the success is due to the quality of the students entering the courses offered by EPGE. A very careful selection is very important for students to concentrate on studies, explained Cysne to the newspaper O Globo. He also recalls that the school encourages these students. In cases of proven merit, we provide scholarships and monitoring, so that students are able to study full time, he says.
Besides being among the best 27 institutions evaluated in Brazil, the Graduate School of Social Sciences is the best placed of Rio de Janeiro. This is the first time that the school was evaluated. This result represents the recognition of an innovative project that seeks to provide a solid humanistic education to our students, coupled with features which from the beginning we stated as the axis of the CPDOC's institutional identity: the belief in interdisciplinarity, the privileged attention to the sources and research methods and the concern for the production of public goods, says the CPDOC's director Celso Castro. It is important to stress that the maximum IGC (5) that we obtained is a result of the first evaluation of its kind, to which the School of Social Sciences, which is very new, is submitted. That is, our School, established in the mid-2000s, is already among the most qualified higher education institutions of the country according to MEC, he celebrates.
As for EBAPE, it is among the top ten in Administration in Brazil and in first place in Rio de Janeiro. Just like FGV's schools, EBAPE has the function to generate knowledge through excellence in academic research and undergraduate, master's and doctorate courses of the highest level of quality. It is very important to get, once again, the top score (5) by MEC (Ministry of Education) in the year that the School turns 60 years old, recalls the director of the School, Flávio Vasconcelos, who emphasizes the importance of the ministry's evaluation. It consolidates EBAPE as an institution of national excellence, among the most reputable and influential of Brazil. It proves that we are on the right track. The professor even says that the school's plans to go beyond borders. The challenge now is to build an international leading role in the academic sphere, embedded in the excellence organizational model of Getulio Vargas Foundation.
EAESP, DIREITO GV and EESP also managed to get the highest score, and they are some of the best in the state of São Paulo.
In total, 2,137 universities, colleges, and university centers were evaluated throughout Brazil.
