Seminar addresses challenges of modern visual data analysis
On August 30, starting at 11 am, the FGV´s School of Applied Mathematics (FGV EMAp) will hold a seminar called “Data Structures for Visual Analytics of Large Spatio-temporal Datasets.” The event will take place in Auditorium 537 in FGV’s main building, at Praia de Botafogo, 190, Botafogo, Rio de Janeiro. It will explore one of the fundamental problems in modern visual data analysis, related to the construction of environments for exploring data that support interactive analysis of large amounts of data.
This problem has two opposite facets. On the one hand, the ever-increasing complexity and size of datasets make it necessary to supply complex navigation capacities and visual summaries. On the other hand, human perception and cognition pose a challenge in relation to how long data processing and rendering loops can take.
In this talk, FGV EMAp will describe data processing strategies recently proposed to alleviate and overcome this challenge. The focus will be on new indexing techniques that support real-time modeling, the quantification of uncertainties and the detection of events in large spatio-temporal datasets.
