Seminar brings together experts to debate arbitration and the judiciary

The FGV Center for Judicial Innovation, Research and Administration (FGV Justice) is holding a seminar called “Arbitration and the Judiciary” on April 19, as part of the “Lisbon Series of Contemporary Debates.” This public event will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. in FGV’s main building in Rio de Janeiro.

Experts, government officials, leaders from the public and private sectors, and researchers will take part in the seminar, which will reflect on the impartiality and independence of arbitrators, recognition of foreign arbitral awards, and arbitration in the public administration.

To debate issues such as the relationship between state and private justice, the seminar will be attended by Justice André Mendonça of the Federal Supreme Court; Beto Simonetti, the president of the Brazilian Bar Association; Nicola Khoury, deputy secretary general for external control at the Federal Audit Court; and Ana Basílio, vice president of the Rio de Janeiro branch of the Brazilian Bar Association.

Coordinated by Justice Luis Felipe Salomão of the Superior Court of Appeals and Professor Peter Sester of FGV Justice, the event seeks to encourage debate on how to improve the justice system. This initiative reflects FGV Justice’s desire to strengthen and innovate in the Brazilian judiciary.
