Economic expectations have improved over the last months but indicators such as employment levels, interest rates and GDP projections still concern specialists.  Researchers from FGV?s Brazilian Institute of Economics (IBRE) will debate the recession and the country?s economic performance in this context at the 3rd Seminar of Economic Analysis, on 5 September at 4pm. The specialists will also analyze the short and medium term prospects for the Brazilian economy.Researchers Regis Bonelli, José Julio Senna, Silvia Matos, Salomão Quadros and Aloisio Campelo will participate in the meeting and present their analysis of macroeconomic themes and economic sectors, as well as indicators and surveys. Economists Armando Castelar, Samuel Pessôa and Bráulio Borges will comment on the evaluations presented by the lecturers, and aspects of the government?s economic policy.According to Bonelli, coordinator of the IBRE´s Macro Bulletin and researcher in the field of Applied Economics at the institute, the approval by Congress of measures to control public spending indicates support for the government?s economic team. However, the analyst predicts that the country will take time to recover. There are several indications that there will be a recovery later this year, but the speed of the recovery will, possibly, be very slow. In any case, performance so far has been so weak that the models developed by the IBRE team outline a 3.2% retraction of GDP in 2016, after a fall of 3.8% last year, said Bonelli. The event will take place at the FGV Cultural Center, located at Praia de Botafogo, 186, in Rio de Janeiro.
