Seminar discusses importance of learning-focused school management

In November, Fundação Getulio Vargas’ Center for the Development of Public Management and Educational Policy (FGV DGPE) and Itaú Social held a seminar called School Management to Ensure Learning for All. Managers and specialists discussed the importance of management focused on equitable learning.

The opening remarks were made by the superintendent of Itaú Social, Angela Dannemann, and the director of FGV DGPE, José Henrique Paim. After that, there was a panel discussion about the challenges and opportunities of learning-focused management, featuring Jaana Nogueira (of FGV DGPE), Mauricio Ernica (of Campinas State University) and Tiana Tapety (of the Municipal Education Secretariat of Oeiras, Piauí). The moderator was Sofia Lerche (of FGV DGPE).

This partnership between FGV DGPE and Itaú Social has also given rise to two free and certified courses. The course on Planning and Strategy for School Management is composed of six modules and it lasts 10 hours in total. The aim is to train participants to identify the building blocks of education projects and the need to construct them collectively; to propose a strategic people management model, its characteristics, potentialities and limitations for application at schools; and to manage schools as spaces for the teaching-learning process.

The course on Leadership and Participatory Management at Schools helps participants analyze the role of school managers; recognize the characteristics of high-performance teams; apply communication and conflict management techniques; and identify components of the decision-making process. This course lasts eight hours, divided into four modules.
