Fundação Getulio Vargas’ Sao Paulo School of Economics (FGV EESP) will formally launch its new Center for Global Business Studies at an event on September 24, at 9:30 a.m., featuring a talk by Singapore’s deputy trade and industry minister, Alvin Tan. This public event will be held at FGV Sao Paulo.

The meeting marks a historic moment: the Mercosul trade bloc’s first trade agreement with an Asian country. Tan will discuss the history and implications of this groundbreaking trade agreement between Mercosul and Singapore.

About Alvin Tan

Alvin Tan is Singapore’s minister for culture, communities and youth and deputy trade and industry minister. He holds a first-class honors degree in economics from the University of Sydney and a master’s in public policy from Harvard University.

He was awarded a Tan Kah Kee Foundation Graduate Fellowship and a Belfer Center of Science and International Affairs Fellowship in International and Global Affairs at Harvard. Before joining the Singaporean government, he worked as head of public policy and economics for Asia-Pacific at LinkedIn and head of public policy and trust and safety at Facebook, and he also worked in investment banking at Goldman Sachs in Hong Kong and Singapore.
