Social security reform takes the stage for debate with government officials
The social security reform is the main topic on the country’s agenda. The reform, which is underway and awaits voting in the National Congress, aims to ensure a better balance for Brazilian social security, which currently faces a serious crisis. With the goal of reflecting on the Brazilian social security system, based on an analysis of the difficulties and the main challenges for the implementation of the social security reform, addressing the main problems and social security challenges in Brazil, Fundação Getulio Vargas will hold the meeting “Social Security Reform,” on March 18, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., at FGV’s Cultural Center, located at Praia de Botafogo, 186, Rio de Janeiro.
With technical and scientific coordination by FGV professor Benjamin Zymler and FGV Projetos Executive Director Cesar Cunha Campos, the event will be attended by the Speaker of the Brazilian House of Representatives, Rodrigo Maia, the President of the Federal Accounting Court, José Múcio Monteiro, and the Vice President of the Federal Supreme Court, Luiz Fux, who will give the main lecture “Constitutional framework of the Brazilian social security system.” The President of the National Association of Tax Auditors from the Brazilian Internal Revenue Service, Floriano Martins de Sá Neto, the former Secretary of Complementary Social Security and public policy expert, Paulo Kliass, the federal judge and Secretary General of the Federal Justice Council, Cleberson José Rocha, the judge from the Federal Accounting Court, Bruno Dantas and the former Minister of Planning and of Finance and FGV professor, Nelson Barbosa, among others, have also been invited to the event.
The panels will address the following topics: “General social security system: result and actuarial projections for the worker," “General social security system: reform proposal and alternatives,” “Civil servants’ social security system” and finally “Complementary social security and the proposed implementation of a capitalization scheme.”
