Sociologist Manuel Castells attends seminar on Communication, Politics and Democracy
In order to discuss democracy, its institutions and changes shaped by modern society, FGV will be welcoming, on July 16, starting at 10 a.m., Spanish sociologist Manuel Castells. The event, organized by FGV’s Department of Public Policy Analysis (DAPP), will be held in the auditorium of FGV Main Office (Praia de Botafogo, 190, Botafogo, Rio de Janeiro, RJ).
The seminar will be guided by the challenge that the scenario of the online modern society represents for democratic regimes around the world, in particular the Brazilian case. In addition to outlining the situation in Brazil and the role of social networks in the last presidential elections, the panel will seek to reflect on possible ways for a renewal of contemporary democratic institutions.
In addition to the international guest, the event will be attended by Felipe Santa Cruz, President of the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB), Fernanda da Escóssia, Editor of Revista Piauí, Marco Aurelio Ruediger, Director of FGV DAPP, and Vinícius Wu, researcher at FGV DAPP.
