Swedish delegation meets to discuss Brazilian tax system

At the beginning of September, Fundação Getulio Vargas’ Sao Paulo Law School hosted a delegation made up of members of the Swedish Parliament’s Fiscal Policy Committee and representatives of the Swedish embassy in Brasilia and consulate in Sao Paulo, to talk about the Brazilian tax system, focusing on the recently approved tax reform.

The FGV Sao Paulo Law School was represented by Mário Schapiro, coordinator of the school’s academic master’s and doctoral programs; Tathiane Piscitelli, a professor on the school’s professional master’s and doctoral programs and its undergraduate law course; and Maria Lúcia Labate Mantovanini Pádua Lima, its international relations coordinator.

The meeting was the initiative of Sweden’s honorary consul in Sao Paulo, Renato Pacheco Neto, who requested an institutional meeting with a professor of tax law with the aim of discussing opportunities for Sweden and the state of Sao Paulo to exchange fiscal experiences and best practices.

According to Tathiane Piscitelli, the conversation was very fruitful and the delegation asked questions and made suggestions regarding the new tax reform model, especially the “cashback” system of personalized consumption tax refunds.
