Taking care of finances is like taking care of one's health, says EESP professor
Today, we talk a lot on healthy aging, but a good control of one's finances is also part of health. Nobody likes to live in debt, Samy Dana concluded.
The Brazilian population should also have access to financial education in schools, says the professor of São Paulo School of Economics (FGV/EESP), Samy Dana, in an article in the newspaper Destak about the habit of saving. We study a lot of things, but not finances. History and geography are important, but so are finances, said the professor. According to Samy, the lack of knowledge to deal with finances lives side by side with a greater offer of credit, which can be dangerous. People grow up unprepared to make financial choices. On the other hand, easy credit has become more available. Now, the new C class has access to credit and it has never dealt with it before. It is often the first person in the family who bought a car, financed a refrigerator, he explained. The professor warns that, besides knowing how to save, financial education may also teach people the best way to use the services offered by banks. Overdraft account checks and credit cards are the most expensive and used products in the market. The most common investment is the savings account, which is not the best either, he mentioned.Samy also gave other tips, like paying off debts before saving, making a budget and planning expenditures. Taking care of finances means we are also taking care of our health. Today, we talk a lot on healthy aging, but a good control of one's finances is also part of health. Nobody likes to live in debt, he concluded.
