The President of the São Paulo Court of Appeals (TJSP), Appellate Judge José Renato Nalini, participated in the opening class for undergraduate and master's students of São Paulo Law School (FGV DIREITO SP) on February 14. He was welcomed by the School's director Oscar Vilhena Vieira.

With the theme Legalization of Life, Nalini addressed issues such as tripartition of powers in its classical conception; explosion of litigation; institutional instability; instrumentalization of Justice, technological developments, and ways to relieve the judiciary.

All of us pay the price for the dysfunctionality of Justice, said the appellate judge. According to him, the Judiciary - with its own jargon, rituals, formalism, bureaucracy and slowness - must find strategies to win the almost 100 million Brazilians processes and, therefore, must be increasingly close to society. We cannot lose contact with reality. We have to follow what society thinks of Justice, stated the president of TJSP, who believes that the interaction with students cooperates with this goal.

Soon after the lecture, Professor Oscar Vilhena stressed the absolute sincerity of the appellate judge and the elegant provocation made to encourage the participation of all. He summoned society's participation the whole time. We are this society and we feel we have been invited, he said.

The event was also attended by the Undergraduate studies coordinator, Frederico Normanha Ribeiro de Almeida; the coordinator of the Professional Master's, Mário Engler; and Professors Theodomiro Dias Neto, Dimitri Dimoulis, Antonio Angarita Silva, besides TJSP's retired appellate judge, Ranulfo de Mello Freire.
