Unemployment rate should remain stable in 2014, according to IBRE

During the seminar Labor Market Outlook in Brazil, the researcher from the Applied Economics Department of the Brazilian Institute of Economics (IBRE), Fernando de Holanda Barbosa Filho, estimated that the coming year should witness few changes to the unemployment rate in Brazil, taking into account the World Cup to stimulate hiring and boost the economy. On the other hand, he also pointed out that the slow deceleration in the generation of job positions, added to electoral and exchange rate contexts can cause changes that will need to be addressed in 2015 by the candidate who takes over the presidency of the country. The first year of the Lula government witnessed adjustments, pushing unemployment up and real income down, but I think that it won't happen in 2014, because president Dilma shall hold as much as she can in the election year, he assessed. For more information about the analysis by the economist, please click here.
