U.S. hegemony in the field of management is topic of debate at FGV/EBAPE

On Wednesday, the School of Public and Business Administration (FGV/EBAPE) welcomed Professor Bill Cooke - of Lancaster University Management School - to present the seminar Writing for our Americas: Problems and Tactics. Cooke presented a preview of the workshop on the U.S. hegemony in the field of management, which will be held at the next meeting of the Academy of Management in Philadelphia, in August this year. He argues that there is a growing understanding that this hegemony, which prescribes at a global scale the ways in which the world can be known, is unacceptable and anachronistic. Cooke's presentation aimed to discuss the extent to which the apparently universal methods of academic practice in management promote U.S. interests, and develop proposals and tactics to deal with the problem of the country and the Academy of Management in promoting the progress of the area. Professor Bill Cooke focuses his research on Brazil and the United States and he is part of the faculty of the International Masters in Practicing Management (IMPM), international master's program co-produced by Lancaster University, EBAPE, McGill, Remnim and Indian Institute of Bangalore.
