Webinar debates election campaigns on social networks
On July 30, Fundação Getulio Vargas’ Department of Public Policy Analysis (FGV DAPP) will hold an online seminar called “How to Monitor Political Discussion on Social Networks: Useful Tools and Examples from Argentina and Brazil).” The event will be broadcast live on FGV’s YouTube channel, starting at 3 pm.
During the event, Ariel Riera (of Argentinean fact-checking organization Chequeado) will present the results of analysis of discussion on social networks in Argentina during the 2019 election campaign. This study took place as part of FGV DAPP’s Digital Democracy Room project, which is monitoring public debate on digital channels in Latin America.
At the webinar, FGV DAPP’s research coordinator, Amaro Grassi, and its linguistic coordinator, Lucas Calil, will describe what the project has learned about political debate on social networks in Brazil. The event will also feature Conicet researcher Natalia Aruguete, who is the coauthor of the book Fake News, Trolls y Otros Encantos, to explain how social networks work and what changes when there are political discussions in these spaces.
The event will be broadcast in Spanish. For more information and to sign up, click here.
