Webinar to discuss innovations in Amazon bioeconomy

Fundação Getulio Vargas’ Sao Paulo School of Economics (FGV EESP) will hold a free webinar on innovations and patents in the Amazon’s bioeconomy, on June 28, 2021, at 7 pm. The speakers will be Igor Calvet, the president of the Brazilian Industrial Development Agency (ABDI), and Claudio Furtado, the president of the National Intellectual Property Institute (INPI).

The moderators will be Wilson Périco, the president of the Amazonas State Center of Industry (CIEAM); Márcio Holland, a professor at FGV EESP and the coordinator of its Master’s in Finance and Economics Program; and Daniel Vargas, a professor at FGV EESP and FGV Agro’s research director.

The aim of this webinar is to discuss how to promote innovations and intellectual property rights in the Amazon region with the leaders of two key institutions in this area, ABDI and INPI.

The Fourth Industrial Revolution is under way across the world, triggering profound changes to the production processes of products and services. Innovations associated with this process require an appropriate economic environment, a lot of research and development, and security for patents and other intellectual property. The extraordinary natural wealth of the Amazon biome has great potential for innovation, involving flora, fauna and microorganisms, which can be used to produce medications, cosmetics and food, among other products.
