The Center for Learning on Evaluation and Results for Brazil and Lusophone Africa (FGV EESP CLEAR) at Fundação Getulio Vargas’ Sao Paulo School of Economics (FGV EESP) is holding a webinar on the evaluation of public policies in oversight bodies. This public event will be livestreamed on FGV’s YouTube channel on May 29, at 6 pm. The event is part of the gLOCAL Evaluation Week, convened by the Global Evaluation Initiative (GEI).

The webinar is mainly aimed at public sector evaluators and decision makers, as well as professionals working for oversight bodies. The idea is to explore institutional practices for evaluating public policies at control bodies in different Brazilian states. The evaluation of public policies takes place in a context permeated by institutions with different mandates, which carry out evaluations for different purposes. Therefore, public managers in this area should pay attention to this plurality of institutional practices and collaboration and cooperation mechanisms.

Accordingly, the webinar’s participants will learn more about the role of audit courts in relation to operational audits and other practices, such as accountability. Brazil’s state and federal audit courts have an “Integration Network” that creates cooperation mechanisms for inspections and works to improve the implementation of decentralized public policies in Brazil. The event will also look at government comptroller offices, which often act as de facto inspectors of institutional practices and in some cases take on the role of evaluators. The experience of the Minas Gerais State Comptroller General’s Office will be presented at the webinar.

The moderator will be Gabriela Lacerda, the executive manager of FGV EESP CLEAR. The speakers will be Renata Silveira Carvalho, a federal external control auditor at the Federal Audit Court and member of the Executive Secretariat of the Integration Network for Oversight of Decentralized Public Policies; and Rodrigo Fontenelle, Minas Gerais state comptroller general. The debater will be Lorena Mello e Figueiredo, a researcher at FGV EESP CLEAR.
