Webinar discusses manufacturers’ challenges in Amazon

Fundação Getulio Vargas’ Sao Paulo School of Economics (FGV EESP) is holding a webinar called “Amazon Dialogues: Manufacturers’ Challenges in the Amazon’s Economy” to discuss industrial companies’ challenges in the Amazon, especially in light of Industry 4.0, automation, robotization, the internet of things, 3D printing and digitalization, among other subjects. The event will take place on October 4, at 7 pm, on FGV’s YouTube channel.

Brazil has been going through an accelerated process of deindustrialization and manufacturing activity itself has been undergoing major transformations. In this context, over the last 16 episodes of the Amazon Dialogues held by FGV EESP, the subject of the future of industry in the Amazon has come up often.

What is manufacturing’s current profile in the Brazilian Amazon? To what extent is it preparing for these transformations? What public policies are necessary to sustain its competitiveness and productivity gains? These are some of the issues that will be discussed with the guests, who lead prominent trade associations in Brazil with a presence in the Amazon region.

The speakers will be Jorge Nascimento Junior, the president of the National Association of Electronic Good Manufacturers (ELETROS); Marcos Fermanian, the president of the Brazilian Association of Motorbike and Bike Manufacturers (ABRACICLO); and Victor Bicca Neto, the president of the Brazilian Association of Soft Drink and Non-Alcoholic Beverage Manufacturers (ABIR).

The moderators will be Márcio Holland, a professor at FGV EESP and the coordinator of its Finance and Economics Master’s Program; and Daniel Vargas, a professor at FGV and FGV Agro’s research director.
