Webinar examines calibration of mathematical models applied to communicable diseases

Event will focus on the COVID-19 epidemic and their use to describe possible scenarios for the pandemic’s evolution. Through them, the scientific community has sought to answer more detailed questions such as “Are we past the peak yet?,” “What will be the death count by the end of the year?” and “Will there be a second wave?

Webinar examines calibration of mathematical models applied to communicable diseases

On July 2, Fundação Getulio Vargas’ School of Applied Mathematics (FGV EMAp) will hold a webinar called “Challenges in Calibrating Mathematical Models for COVID-19,” featuring FGV EMAp professor Moacyr Alvim. The event will be broadcast live, starting at 2 pm.

This debate on mathematical models applied to communicable diseases will focus on the COVID-19 epidemic and their use to describe possible scenarios for the pandemic’s evolution. Through them, the scientific community has sought to answer more detailed questions such as “Are we past the peak yet?,” “What will be the death count by the end of the year?” and “Will there be a second wave?”. These questions pose challenges and uncertainties, which will be described through a calibration-based approach.
