Webinar examining the hits and misses of the new industrial policy agenda
With a ten-year horizon and investments totaling R$300 billion until 2026, the government has launched the New Industry Brazil (NIB) initiative in an effort to reverse the deindustrialization process in the country. In this context, FGV IBRE and Folha de S. Paulo are organizing the webinar 'The New Industrial Policy: Successes and Challenges.' The event will take place on February 28th at 10 a.m. on FGV's YouTube channel.
The participation of the Manufacturing Industry in Gross Value Added (GVA) at current prices reached 15.31% in 2023. However, at constant prices from 1995, there was a decline compared to 2019.
The program has been met with both criticism, particularly regarding the fiscal impact of the proposed measures, and praise for the need to restore a competitive industry in the country.
The event will be moderated by Fernando Canzian, special reporter for Folha de S. Paulo. The speakers include Armando Castelar, associate researcher at FGV IBRE; Marcos Mendes, associate researcher at Insper; and Nelson Marconi, associate professor at FGV EAESP and Coordinator of the Center for Studies on New Development.
