Webinar explores fintech regulation, innovation and cryptoassets

In recent years, Brazil has seen a boom in financial technology firms, known as fintechs, together with major changes to payment and bank transfer arrangements, such as the PIX instant transfer system, and the introduction of Open Banking and Open Finance. What future changes in market regulation can we expect? This and other questions will be answered at a webinar called “Cryptoassets and the Digital Real,” which is being organized by Fundação Getulio Vargas’ Sao Paulo School of Economics (FGV EESP). The event will take place on May 16, at 6 pm, on FGV’s YouTube channel.

The Senate recently approved a bill to regulate the cryptocurrency market in Brazil. Back in August 2020, the Brazilian Central Bank began studying a proposal to issue a digital currency called the “Digital Real.”

Where are we heading with these changes? What are the main advantages these transformations will have for society? What guarantees of security do these innovations have for users? Are new investment opportunities safe and attractive? Will paper money end? These are some of the topics that will be addressed at the event.

The speakers will be Bruna Jachemet, a lawyer in Brazil and the United Kingdom; and Jefferson Colombo, a coordinator and professor at FGV EESP. The moderator will be Marcio Holland, a professor at FGV EESP and Agência Broadcast columnist.
