Webinar looks at fight against obstacles faced by black females and trans people in running for office in Brazil
On Thursday, June 24, at 10 am, the Center for Racial Justice and Law and the Center for Justice and Constitution at the FGV Sao Paulo Law School, in partnership with the Black Coalition for Rights and the National Association of Transvestites and Transexuals, will hold a webinar to debate the fight for racial and LGBTQIA+ equality in Brazilian politics.
The idea for the event arose from work done during a semester at the Diversity Policies Clinic by FGV Sao Paulo Law School undergraduate students in conjunction with partners. Based on studies about representation in national and international elections, the students developed proposals to improve and defend racial and LGBTQIA+ equality in Brazilian politics, which they will present in the webinar.
The speakers will be Professor Thiago Amparo, the coordinator of the Center for Racial Justice and Law and the Diversity Policies Clinic at the FGV Sao Paulo Law School; Bruna Benevides, the political coordination secretary at the National Association of Transvestites and Transexuals; Júlia Barcelos, the general secretary of the Superior Electoral Court; Sheila Carvalho, the coordinator of the Black Coalition for Rights; and FGV Sao Paulo Law School students.
