Webinar looks at global tensions and EU-Mercosur trade deal

Recent global tensions have affected Europe and its stance in relation to international agreements. In this context, the Center for Infrastructure and Environmental Solutions (FGV CEISA) at Fundação Getulio Vargas’ Sao Paulo School of Business Administration (FGV EAESP) is holding a webinar called “The Geopolitical Crisis and EU-Mercosur Trade Deal – Roles and Opportunities.” The event will take place on May 30, at 2 pm, on FGV’s YouTube channel.
Mercosur has an important role to play in Brazil’s economic recovery and the trade agreement between the Europeans and South Americans is once again on the global agenda, especially in light of the Russia-Ukraine war. Several factors have prevented the EU-Mercosur free trade deal from moving ahead. The central issue is environmental policy, especially in Brazil. In this context, what roles do the EU and Brazil have and what opportunities are there? The purpose of this webinar is to clarify these and other issues related to the topic.
Talks will be given by Hadil da Rocha Vianna, Brazil’s consul general in Milan; Graziano Messana, the president of the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Sao Paulo; Alfredo Pretto, the president of the Italy-Brazil Association; Danilo Oscar Lancini, a member of the European Parliament; Federico Rampini, an author and journalist who specializes in international politics; and Gesner Oliveira, the coordinator of FGV CEISA. The moderators will be Laura Valente de Macedo, a postdoctoral researcher at FGV EAESP; and Alessandro Galimberti, a journalist at IlSole24Ore, an Italian newspaper.
