Inflation for low-income families in Brazil advances in July

The Class 1 Consumer Price Index (CPI-C1) rose 0.25% in July, 1.27 percentage points (p.p.) below June, when the index recorded a variation of 1.52%. With the result, the indicator accumulates an increase of 3.29% in the year and 3.53% in the last 12 months. In July, the CPI-BR rose 0.17%. The indicator recorded a variation of 4.22% in the last 12 months, remaining above the level recorded by the CPI-C1.

Six of the eight expense categories covered by the index recorded decreases in their variations. Food (2.31% to -0.45%), Housing (2.36% to 1.40%), Transport (0.73% to -0.05%), Clothing (0.27% to -0.64%), Education, Reading and Recreation (0.51% to 0.28%) and Miscellaneous Expenses (0.23% to 0.16%). The highlights in these groups were herbs and vegetables (-1.52% to -21.37%), household power bill (9.34% to 5.75%), gasoline (4.25% to -0.29%), clothes (0.35% to -0.88%), hotel (2.95% to 1.86%), and pet food (0.93% to 0.01%).

On the other hand, the Communication (0.15% to 0.29%) and Health and Personal Care (0.15% to 0.20%) groups recorded increasing variation rates. The following items stood out in these expense classes: cell phone bill (0.41% to 0.70%) and hygiene and personal care items (-0.54% to 0.03%).
