International Conference debates use of information technology in management

Professor Luiz Antonio Joia, Head Researcher of the Electronic Business and Government Lab (e:lab) of FGV’s Brazilian School of Public and Business Administration (EBAPE), participated in the ‘Americas Conference on Information Systems’ (AMCIS 2018). The event was held in New Orleans, USA, from August 16-18, 2018.

During the conference, Professor Joia presented the articles “It Is So (If You Think So): Social Representation Theory and Constructs Definition in the MIS Area in Brazil”, developed alongside e:lab associate researcher Gustavo Marchisotti (MEX alum), and “Turnaway Intention in the IT Area: A Delphi-based Investigation”, developed alongside e:lab associate researcher Mariela Assis (also an MEX alum). The first study shows how to apply the Social Representation Theory through statistical implicative analysis in order to adequately define research constructs. The second article investigates the reasons that led IT professionals in Brazil to abandon the area and pursue new markets.

Professor Joia also attended the annual meeting of the Latin America Chapter of the Association for Information Systems (LACAIS), of which he was one of the founders, and was invited to join as one of the program chairs of ICIS 2020 (International Conference on Information Systems) – the most prominent conference in this particular field –, to be held in December 2020 in New Delhi, India.
