The August Consumer Price Index - Class 1 (CPI-C1) rose 0.04%, 0.21 percentage point (p.p.) below the July rate, when prices rose 0.25%. The index now accumulates a 3.34% increase in the year and 3.70% in the last 12 months. In August, the CPI-BR rose 0.07%. The indicator for the last 12 months stood at 4.15%, above the level recorded by CPI-C1.

Two of the eight expense categories that comprise the index recorded a lower price variation: Housing (1.40% to 0.39%) and Communication (0.29% to -0.10%). The highlights in these groups were household power bill (5.75% to 0.08%) and mobile phone bill (0.70% to -0.39%).

On the other hand, the categories Food (-0.45% to -0.40%), Transport (-0.05% to 0.07%), Clothing (-0.64% to -0.45%), Miscellaneous Expenses (0.16% to 0.74%), Health and Personal Care (0.20% to 0.27%), and Education, Reading and Recreation (0.28% to 0.41%) recorded increasing variation rates. The following items stood out in these classes: vegetables (-21.37% to -10.09%), urban bus fare (0.01% to 0.48%), clothing (-0.88% to -0.57%), cigarettes (0.16% to 2.16%), personal care and hygiene items (0.03% to 0.21%) and air tickets (-0.03% to 5.02%).

The next CPI-C1 will be released on October 5.
